This time, we address the question on what car to restore if you're going to build one in your home garage and you do not want to do a Camaro or Mustang. This viewer wants to build a Chevelle. You can reach us with your questions on our Facebook page or by clicking on This Link.
We've come to the end of the road on our 2800 mile 2010 Spring Road Trip, but did everything (and everyone) survive? Check out all the videos from the trip at the link below. We've also added a new contest - Guess our 1962 Galaxie's MPG on the trip - to win some more V8TV shwag.
We made it to LA, and we've been spending some time hagning out on the beach in Hermosa Beach. It's a great little beach community that has plenty to do.. or nothing at all. Here's some scenes from the sands! Next stop - Vegas!
One of the best things about the south western USA for car enthusiasts
is the weather... it's always sunny, warm, and dry, so the cars never
rust. At least not like they do where the snow - and the salt -
flies. Today, we ventured out to Desert Valley Auto Parts
in Phoenix to walk around the yard and check out the sights. We're
getting some parts for our 1959 Biscayne "Post Modern" project from
DVAP, and it was cool to see what else was in the yard. These guys
ship their parts all over the world.. in fact, there was a container
being loaded for the Netherlands out in front. They let you walk
around and tour the place on your own, so bring a lunch, some bottled
water, and sun screen... oh yeah, and your wallet!
Follow along as we embark on the 2010 V8TV Spring Road Trip in our '62 Ford Galaxie! We're going to be crusing from Scottsdale, AZ to Southern California, then up through Vegas and through some national parks in Utah, then over the Rocky Mountains before heading back to the midwest to V8TV land. You're welcome to join us on the road and in our forum, we'll be posting new videos, pictures, music, contests, and other nonsense from the road each day.
Some thoughts on the recent video showing the impact of a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air vs. a 2009 Chevy Malibu. After getting into our 1959 Biscayne project, the outcome seems more believable! Safety has come a long way.
We were doing a tune-up on a car over the weekend and the timing was so badly off that it had a little backfire. "Little" enough to destroy a muffler! This was actually pretty cool to see it come apart, but now you know why cheap mufflers are so cheap! This one blew out completely, throwing rust and carbon build-up all over the place.
There are a couple of simple tuning tips for your Holley carburator that will eliminate stumbles and hesitations, nameley the speed of the vacuum secondaries opening and the accelerator pump discharge nozzle sizes. Here's a quick video touching on both of these systems. For more complete Holley carb tuning info, check out this video!
We finally start the new Fast Times 383 stroker egine in the '69 Camaro in this short video. There is still lots of tuning and adjusting to do, but at least it's alive, and it's a monster!
Kelle did much of the work on this 1969 Camaro's 383 engine swap, and here, she's using her natural ability to reach into small places to thread in a bellhousing bolt!
Our 1969 Camaro project is coming along, and this is the latest iPhone update. We couldn't believe how well the new Hooker Competition black ceramic Darksides headers fit. Really, they just slipped right in! This car should be running tomorrow..
The response has been great on the iPhone vids, so here's another update. This time, the message is to test fit everything on a new engine install outside the car before you put it in.. makes your life easier!
This is just a quick update shot on our iPhone in the shop bringing you a look at a 1969 Camaro project we're working on. We're currently swapping a lame 350 for a Fast Times built 383 and a bunch of other parts to make this Camaro sing. There will be a more complete, plished video next week, but let us know what you think of the iPhone update.. if they're popular, we can post one up every day!
We receive lots of email here at V8TV, and this time we decided to answer a few on video rather than type 'em up. We address how to hook-up a 1000 horsepower Chevelle, as well as where to get some of the things recently seen on V8TV. Feel free to send any questions you have about the project cars, parts, tools, or anything else to this link anytime!
Sometimes it's easy to blow things off when they get tricky, assuming that you can leave the mess for the next person to work on it. We've all been on the receiving end of this, where someone hacked something together, only to have it explode when it's your turn to work on it. Stripped bolts & nuts, bad wiring, poorly installed or assembled parts all can make you really mad when you encounter them left behind be the previous owner of your project car. This rant speaks to doing things right the first time, because you may be the next person to work on it! Make it easy for yourself and lose the "leave it for the next A-hole" mentality... you may be the "next A-hole!"
Nick Scavo always has interesting projects in his garage, and the latest is a 1967 Corvette roadster. Nick's going to be installing an EFI big block Chevy, upgrading the brakes, rewiring the car, and adding new wheels, tires, and exhaust, among other things. We stopped by for a quick look at the project.
Brett Evans added these trick billet hood hinges from Ring Brothers Performance to his 1965 Mustang to solve the problem of poorly-fitting hoods... it's more often the hinges than the hood!
This slick 1962 Buick Skylark is coming together at Custom Fixation in Watseka, IL. We met with builder Justin Nichols and chatted about the car and the plans to make it a killer crusier powered by the original all aluminum Buck V8!
