The moment of truth... the SS496's big block Chevy engine finally came to life on the Fast Times dyno!    The Lunati reciprocating assembly under Holley heads and intake fired by an MSD Digital E-Curve Distributor spun it's way to over 550 HP and 572 Ft. Lbs. of torque at just 4400 RPM, and it idles smoothly at 750 RPM.   The 150 HP NOS Nitrous shot will push this motor right up to the 700 HP mark on the track.   The torque comes in bigtime and low in the rpm range producing a nice, big, flat torque curve that is going to be great fun to drive!

If you look at a 496 that makes 550 HP as the only criteria, it's not that impressive... but we build this engine for torque! It made 572 ft lbs peak, with over 500 ft lbs coming in at like 3000, and it holds the torque high all the way to the redline. The big cubes, roller cam, and head work make that happen. Plus, the big cubes and aluminum heads make the power and torque on low compression, so it runs on 93 and even 89 octane with no problems. It's not just about peak HP numbers.

I dont think 550 is that impressive for a 496. i have a 454 with performer rpm cast iron oval ports with a gasket match and mild bowl work and a mild hydraulic cam that still idles at 800rpm that dynos at 505 i would have hoped for high 500's out of something with an expensive stroker kit, aluminum heads with port and bowl work ,4 angle valve job ,roller cam and roller lifters ect. I think its a waste of money for the extra cubes.
