Hi,
today was the second birthday of my Pontiac Catalina, we started the engine for the first time after i made a complete rebuild. It is the first engine i have ever build and i'm really happy that it works.

http://www.youtube.com/v/aMicDBhuM6A (External Embedding Disabled)

Here are some Parts i used in this rebuild:
-CompCams 275 DEH Dual Energy Cam (complete kit with lifters ...)
-Harland Sharp Rocker arms
-Sealed Power Bearings and Freezeplugs
-Hedman Headers (3 pipe design)
-Holley 750cfm
-Holley mechanical Fuel Pump

Please tell me what you think about this first run...

Greetings...

Great news! Congrats on the build! I'll check the video later, actually responding on my phone in an airport.. but it's great to see you got it running!

Wow, that sounds great! Amazing how loud that dip stick rattle was. That must have scared you a little!

Thank you Kevin

and yes you are definetly right, i was really scared about that rattle noise. My first thought was that a Rocker was hitting the Valvecover because i'm still using the factory original ones. My second thought was that a valve was hitting something -> Worst case... But in the end i noticed ( i noticed it while recording this vid Wink ) the dipstick was the bad guy Cheesy

Thank you chris!

I'm going to put the inner Valve springs in this week. And hopefully my brake parts will arrive soon ... i need to drive this baby again Cheesy

But i have a question about rough engine idle ...

After i installed the new cam (275DEH from Comp) i expected a rough idle, but after the break in, when the "real" idle was showing up the engine was shaking.
My question now is, is this normal behaviour with such a cam or do i have a vacuum leak ?
Here are the cam specs: http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=1209&sb=2

It's not that i don't like thgis choppy/rough idle, but only to be sure that everything is propperly installed and set up. It was my first engine rebuild and im the only one in my circle of friends who installed such a big cam ...

Some side notes: The engine accepts gas very well and stops shacking immediately with the slightest amount of gas.

Hope someone can help me...

Greetings,
Robert

After a little bit of testing and checking i found out that one of the carb studs got loose. It was already repaired with a helicoil so i had to fix this again ... And the PCV seems to be broken too. I hope i can get a new one...

Glad to hear you found a source for the problems... carb studs are an easy fix, and I'm sure you'll be able to find a PCV valve as well.

Thx Kevin!

Its a Flowmaster 2,5'' American Thunder System (with H-pipe) for the Tempest wich we custom fitted to my Catalina. And it has Hedman Hedders with a 3 tube design. It took two full days to fit the exhaust but after i heard it for the first time it was all worth it!

I'm a bit late to the party on this but let me say congrats on getting another Pontiac on the road! She sounds great. It's been a few months since your first post. Any updates?
