More progress... Kelle and Scott got the top frame installed, but that seemed a little too easy, so we fully expect to fight with this one later.   John was doing more panel fitment on the front of the car while Mark began the final wetsanding on the rear.    Kelle also installed the pre-cut Dynamat in the tub.    We're planning to shoot the outside color on Saturday!    Stay tuned!   And register in the forum if you have not registered yet for a chance to win a free case of Royal Purple Synthetic Oil!   It's free and easy!

More later...

Yeah Bill, Kelle's actually quite the stickler when it comes to the paint on these cars.   It's more like she scrutinizes the work, then grabs your sandpaper and takes over.   But that's one of the reasons for the quality of the car... it's all details and persistence.

Latest update - windshield is in, more trim work, and spraying the white bottom 1/3d of the body!

3 weeks to go...   paint on Saturday, 10/6!

The car is in color!    We're actually at the paint facility - we rented a Blow Therm down-draft booth and the final clear coats are going on now.    We'll post the video in a couple hours, but it's slick!

Saturday was a big day - the SS496 is painted!

The momentus occasion has arrived - the SS496 Chevelle is painted!    John shot 3 coats of PPG Deltron basecoat and 3 coats  of PPG Concept 2002 clear for a great looking paint job right out of the SATA gun.    Now it's time to wetsand the clear, buff it out, and put the car back together!

Special thanks to Greg Bartnett at Meramac Heights Collision Center for letting us use their fantastic Blow Therm downdraft booth to spray the car and bake it without the worry of dust in the finish.

Whatcha think?

the car is looking real good!  Cool

I really like the 'stock' color and look of the car, but the underneath is all done up!  Cool

Glad you like the stock look, I know most people say the underneath is never seen so why put all that time into but we firmly believe if you are going to do something, anything, do it right.... And we don't want anyone putting that car on a lift and saying "who the #$!$%$^ put this piece together.
Glad you appreciate the efforts.

Now that the car is back from the paint booth, we're wetsanding and buffing the clear to cut any "orange peel" texture out of the finish.     We're also finding ourselves playing a game called "what's in the tumbler today?", in which we dive into our Eastwood tumbler to pull out freshly cleaned or polished treasures!

OK, We're at Fast Times Motorworks to build the 496 for the SS496... we're going to assemble the engine Thursday and dyno Friday.    We'll post clips from both here ASAP!
